7 Filipino-American Athletes Currently in the NFL
Superbowl LVIII (that’s 58 for us non-Roman folk) will take place February 11, 2024 in Allegiant Stadium, Nevada. The Kansas City Chiefs will go against the San Francisco 49ers.
In all honesty, I don’t know much about football. But I do love watching the Superbowl for the high stakes, the halftime show, the food, and the vibes. And, of course, the really, really expensive commercials. Bonus points if the ad features Adam Driver.
But for Kwento-Kwento, I thought it would be fun to list some of the Filipino-American athletes currently playing in the NFL. Please note, I probably don’t know the details of their positions on the team, nor am I ranking them for their athletic skills. So if you’re a die-hard football fan and want to “at me” for including a player who’s really terrible or what not, please—I am not the one.
Now, without further ado—here are 7 Filipino-American athletes representing!
Camryn Bynum
Currently is a safety player for the Minnesota Vikings. He is of Filipino descent through his mother, and African descent through his father. He even traced his great grandmother’s roots all the way to Leyte, an island in the Visayas.
Nikko Remigio
I once saw a post on Instagram saying that Nikko Remigio is currently the only Filipino-American currently playing in the Superbowl, but unfortunately, this isn’t true. Granted, Nikko Remigio is a wide-receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, but he won’t be playing in Allegiant Stadium on Sunday as he is on injured reserve. Still though, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope that one day he’ll play and represent in the Superbowl!
Tyler Allgeier
Tyler Allgeier is a running back for the Atlanta Falcons. He is of mixed white, black and Filipino descent.
Keith Ismael
Born in Oakland, California, Ismael is playing as a center for the Arizona Cardinals. He is of African America, Filipino, and Samoan descent.
Josh Jacobs
Jacobs is a running back for the Las Vegas Raiders. His family is from Angeles City, Luzon, through his grandmother, whom he has a tattoo of!
Andrei Iosivas
Born to a Filipino mother and Romanian father, Iosivas is playing as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. He was also born in Japan!
Zaire Barnes
Barnes is a linebacker for the New York Jets. Go Jets!
